Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF)

The Western Grains Research Foundation (WGRF) is a producer-member organization that administers a check-off program from producers deliveries in order to fund wheat, durum and barley breeding research. (Barley is exempt in Alberta where the Alberta Barley Commission has a check-off program in place.)  WGRF is the largest farmer funded grains breeding research investor in Western Canada. It funds public research programs across the Prairies, including barley breeding programs at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Brandon, MB, and the Crop Development Centre at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK. More than 30 new barley varieties have been developed with WGRF contributions.
